Re:Joyce

Senator Joyce: "IF I shoot a woman and don't kill her but kill the baby, I haven't actually committed a crime?"

Which is a better headline:

Joyce uses Senate hearing to nonchalantly seek legal advice on a domestic dispute between himself and his wife that morning.

Barnaby's complete and utter ignorance about all things is exposed - unaware of attempted murder laws.

Joyce proposes new hit-the-foetus abortion carnival shooting aim game. Fun for all (surviving) members of the family.

Joyce stuns everyone (again) with his rampant stupidity. Nationals leader seeks advice from refugee groups on lip-sewing techniques to prevent further embarassment.

Joyce is a smacktard. Again.

rejoycing greatly.
I don't know how anyone can have the gall to have brought this topic back into currency. that debate was done already - and women won it. I can't comprehend the arrogance. they talk as if women just pop off to get an abortion as lightly as they'd get a leg wax. I really think this is one of those things no one can understand without being in the position of having to make the choice themselves. I mean, if they're opposed to abortion, fine, :-) don't have one!

I think this is such an incredibly painful topic for a lot of women that there is such a relative silence about it. Maybe also that many women feel its hopeless to try and argue with people and get into yet another intractable argument, each side becoming further polarised - when they know that its such a grey subject. Its very difficult to maintain a coherent moderate argument when you're trying to justify yourself to someone who just refuses to hear you.

Nice one Larry - thanks for bringing it up.

I really do not think these politicians, nor the religious groups who peddle against it, give a crap either way - except for those that really do wish to lessen the trauma on the women involved.

Centuries from now it will still be an issue.

It's about pandering and distraction - as with gay rights.

In the end, it's a lot of hoohah, and politicians don't have to concentrate on other things.

Like, y'know - running the country, 'n' stuff.

If you're opposed to abortion:

* Don't have one.

* Move to where you can't have one.

* Encourage the use of contraceptives. (Look at moi Pope Benedict XVI, look at moooi, now I got one word to say to you - dingers.)

* And allow potential mothers to raise a family in a decent society, where the reasons they may not want a child at a particular moment in time may be that they cannot afford it, they can't get welfare to help, the world is too dark a place to bring someone into, the child may get chastised for being the wrong race, why raise a child if they're just going to be sent off to war, child care is too expensive, or too inaccessible, they work too many hours and it wouldn't be fair, they're too stressed by the fast paced rat race to provide a caring household, or heck - even not being able to feed a child due to circumstance.

They need to deal with those scenarios if they want a reduction in the number of abortions.

Otherwise, it's like stopping hunger by banning starvation.
