I know it's incredibly belittling to drill Julia down (hee hee) to sex appeal.
But damn. She's got sex appeal. Amazing brain, awesome voice, brilliant policies (Medicare Gold actually kicked arse if you look at the stats), and a smoking bod.
"a party in which almost anyone with a pocket full of votes, often procured in dubious circumstances, believes it is their right to demand something from the party in return."
Although I may have been reading her comments wrong, I do believe she's suggesting that just because a Labor MP gets elected doesn't mean they get to question the authority of the party - that they pretty much should just sit there and do as they're told - regardless of any promises made to the electorate.
I just hope she doesn't get Lathamed. She strikes me as being a lot smarter than Latham, but that doesn't mean they won't do her in. All I can say is the ALP bloody well need to hurry up and kick Kim Beazley out and stop scrambling to improve their own careers or we are going to be stuck with another three years of Liberal government. By handing Beazley the leadership again after the last election instead of immediately tackling the problem of factions and scumbags using the party structure for personal gain, I think the ALP failed to leave itself enough time to sort out these problems and subsequently carry out an effective election campaign. My prediction is that short of a major cock-up by the Libs, Labor are screwed this time around whether or not they get rid of Beazley, because the people on the (very) short list of who would make a decent party leader will get stabbed in the back and dragged down by the rest of the self-interested scumbags who effectively rule the party at present.
As for that quote- did Gillard mean votes from preselections or electoral votes? She said on that Australian Story on Monday night that she indeed had to play hard at the factional game in order to get preselected, despite her giving the impression that she found the whole process distasteful.
Yes, thank goodness those more fortunate got those much needed medical safety net payments.
'Cause it's hard to afford to look after your health when you have an expensive home.
There's a lot of serious wealth pretenders - those that spend all income and any possible debt on seeming richer than they are. (I know the majority of folk do this to some extent, but when the Salvos drop food/clothing off to an expensive suburb with Beemers in the driveway, it gets a bit absurd.)
Hello priorities?
But it's good to see poor people doing the honest thing and not bothering to have their health looked after, because they are actually worth quite a lot less.

More JG, all the time.
She sounds very much like Kath from Kath & Kim.
And as for Medicare Gold - would we rather that or WorkChoices?
Nuff said.
Although, Gillard said recently:

Good question. Would we also rather that or the Medicare Safety Net?

Not sure on the quote. I don't see Kimmie givin' up the reins anytime soon.
Hope I'm wrong.
And if I may be so bold, and petty, she is hot, but should do something about that chin.
It's not double, but it's something.
Like a turkey.
I dunno.
