Strawman

“Prime Minister John Howard believes workers will welcome plans to give bosses increased powers to sack staff if it means getting rid of annoying colleagues.”

Yep. I would welcome any chance I had to have annoying co workers sacked by giving up my freedom not to likewise be sacked.

I just love the fact that Howard keeps bleating how dismissing people because of race/family committments/union activity/etc is still illegal under his plan.

Because that's exactly the reason employers give when they sack people.
