Heard the latest? The one about Aboriginal children who are subject to all this shocking abuse? Funny how there is no eveidence to suggest that Aboriginal children are subject to any greater chance of abuse than non-Aboriginal children.
You think that it is a coincidence that this issue has been raised just after the police officer was acquitted of manslaughter of an Aboriginal man in townsville? No of course not.....
Many people know that the police force is noted for "discipling" prisoners my giving them a whack in the kidneys. I wouldn't even be surprised that they were taught this at police training schools.
Aleks, I'm not sure what the figures are like for the aboriginal population as a whole, but there is strong evidence that aboriginal children in some remote communities are much more at risk of abuse (as well as a whole heap of other problems that John Howard has never shown any interest in addressing). I can probably drag up some references if you're interested.
If you can sarah, that would be great. I know this issue was raised on the ABC last year on one of the current affairs programs, yet after the people in question were unable to provide any evidence the matter was hushed up.......until now. Why? As I said, probably as a way of taking attention away from the farce of a trial that saw the the muderer who was a police officer get off scott free.
I think you will find that children who generally live in poverty, Aboriginal or non-Aboriginal, suffer higher rates of sexual, physical and psychological abuse. Yet it is only amongst the Aboriginal community that the community as a whole must seem to suffer for this.
As I said Sarah any statitics would be appreciated.

That's true too, but there is no poverty in Australia comparable with that found in some of those remote aboriginal communities. Would you be surprised, then, to find that the rate of child sexual abuse are higher in some of those communities?
Here's a report on child sexual abuse in indigenous communities. It's from 2003.
